This gene is a member of the paired box (PAX) family of transcription factors. Members of this gene family typically contain a paired box domain, an octapeptide, and a paired-type homeodomain. These genes play critical roles during fetal development and cancer growth. Mice lacking this gene exhibit impaired development of organs, musculature and the skeleton, including absent and abnormally developed teeth, and neonatal lethality. Mutations in the human gene are associated with selective tooth agenesis-3. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2015] PAX9是一種在人類體內(nèi)由PAX9基因編碼的蛋白質(zhì)。該基因是轉(zhuǎn)錄因子PAX家族中的一員。在小鼠胚胎發(fā)生過程中，PAX9從胚胎期第8.5天開始表達，到胚胎期第9.5天時更加明顯；在這個階段，它的表達僅限于咽內(nèi)胚層。隨后，PAX9逐漸在軸向骨架中表達。PAX9是顱面、牙齒和肢體發(fā)育所必需的，也可能涉及到鱗狀上皮以及各種器官及骨骼的發(fā)育。在某些人群中，PAX9在智齒缺失中發(fā)揮了一定的作用。同時，它也是胸腺、甲狀旁腺、鰓下體、牙齒、顱骨和喉部的骨骼以及遠端肢體正常發(fā)育所必需的轉(zhuǎn)錄因子。 |
